{"id":115938,"date":"2015-05-14T06:00:46","date_gmt":"2015-05-14T06:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=115938"},"modified":"2015-05-13T19:23:09","modified_gmt":"2015-05-13T19:23:09","slug":"ghanas-position-on-global-school-rankings-not-by-accident-npp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=115938","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s position on global school rankings not by accident \u2013 NPP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated that the global school rankings which placed Ghana at the bottom has vindicated its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s advocacy for a free Senior High School (SHS) education.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;NDRejUMV1mBPSjUoMxwaniddHlD5uIhH&#8221;]\u201cThis vindicates the message that our Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been consistently preaching since 2008 that \u2018no Ghanaian should be denied education to the secondary level\u2019 and that education must be free from kindergarten to Senior High School,\u201d said a statement from the party.<\/p>\n<p>According to the party, Ghana\u2019s position was \u201cnot by accident because investment in education has slumped under President John Mahama and standards are feared to even fall further this year, with Government refusing to release funds for schools and Dumsor affecting studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/05\/13\/global-school-rankings-puts-ghana-at-bottom\/#sthash.dUXf6kl7.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">OECD\u2019s global school ranking<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>which is considered the biggest in the world analyzed 76 countries \u00a0and put Asian countries in the top five spots and African countries at the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea said the party\u2019s flagbearer \u201cis clear in his conviction that basic education has to be set at secondary level and made accessible and compulsory for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the \u201ccomprehensive survey\u201d which was conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has \u201creaffirmed the point consistently made by the NPP, that there is an intrinsic link between investment in education and the correspondent growth in the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nana Akomea mentioned that the educational policy the government is about to roll out this academic year is not the same as the policy of the NPP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat the government has proposed to do is to remove school fees for Ghanaian children in day secondary schools from the next academic year.
