Following recent developments surrounding the planned vigil by some celebrities, there is uncertainty over whether or not the procession will take place.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”KUFZFotYWzuiffXLMIQgkTSsVBiCEHUB”]But Counsel for the celebrities organizing the procession, Kofi Bentil, has told Citi News,<\/strong>\u00a0the vigil will take place as planned.<\/p>\n

He said\u00a0participants will not violate the ban on drumming and noise-making, but stressed that the organizers\u00a0will not shield any participant who attempts to violate the terms of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be law and order. There will not be any noise-making. We have committed that if anybody tries to do anything untoward we will hand them over to the Police. The Police have assured us of security and everything and to that extent therefore, we believe the vigil will come on and everybody\u2019s concerns will be respected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The May 16 vigil dubbed: ‘dumsor vigil’\u00a0is aimed at putting pressure on the government to find solutions to the power crisis which is affecting businesses and households.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Ga Traditional Council is calling for a postponemnt of the vigil following a ban on drumming and noising making ahead of the celebration of the Homowo festival.<\/p>\n

The Accra Regional Police Command is therefore meeting the organizers of the vigil and representatives from the Ga Traditional Council on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Accra Regional Police PRO,\u00a0ASP Effia Tenge indicated that arrangements regarding the vigil will be finalized after the scheduled meeting.<\/p>\n

She narrated that during their first meeting with the celebrities, the Police raised concerns over the ban on drumming and noise making but they were assured that the event will be peaceful and well within the acceptable noise level.<\/p>\n

“We had a meeting with them and we brought it to their notice that in spite of the fact that we were ready to give them the necessary security, there are certain concerns. They told us that it is a noise-free procession that was the problem we were having in the first place,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Accra Police Police PRO remarked that until the arrangements are finalized, there can be no vigil on the said date.<\/p>\n
