Baltimore has lifted an overnight curfew imposed this week, following riots sparked by the death of a black man in police custody.<\/p>\n
The curfew had been in place since Tuesday, after protests over the death of Freddie Gray, 25, turned violent.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Baltimore’s top prosecutor announced criminal charges against six officers involved in the case.<\/p>\n
Gray was arrested on 12 April, and died a week later from injuries sustained in a police van.<\/p>\n
Under the curfew, residents were ordered to stay home from 22:00 until 05:00, and officials had been expected to keep it in place for another day.<\/p>\n
But on Sunday morning, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said she did not want to maintain it any longer than was necessary.<\/p>\n
Protests have continued since the worst of the riots on Monday, but they have been largely peaceful.<\/p>\n
Correspondents say the charges against the six officers – which range from manslaughter to murder – have eased tensions.<\/p>\n
