Togo’s President, Faure Gnassingbe has been re-elected for a third time.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”0rdD5OILCxkkft9wGG9qoAzceKJgdNPJ”]According to the AFP news agency, Togo’s electoral commission disclosed that\u00a0Gnassingbe won with 58.75% while his main rival\u00a0Jean-Pierre Fabre had 34.95%.<\/p>\n
“The national electoral commission states that Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe has been elected based on provisional results which are subject to confirmation by the Constitutional Court,” head of Togo’s electoral commission, Taffa Tabiou\u00a0reportedly said.<\/p>\n
International election observers including the EU and ECOWAS have described the election as transparent.<\/p>\n
Reports indicate that the turn out rate of the country’s 3.5 million voters was about 55%.<\/p>\n
Gnassingbe has been the Togo president since 2005 when he succeeded his father, who died after 38 years in office.<\/p>\n
