Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes the club will appoint Ryan Giggs as his successor.<\/p>\n

Giggs, 41, was in charge for four games last season after David Moyes’s dismissal and was appointed assistant manager to Van Gaal in May 2014.<\/p>\n

Van Gaal, 63, is coming to the end of his first season in charge and has a contract until 2017.<\/p>\n

When asked about Giggs, he told MUTV:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> “I expect that he will be the next manager after I am gone.”<\/p>\n

He added: “Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players [do]. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well.”<\/p>\n

Giggs said it was “the proudest moment” of his career to take charge of the club after Moyes’s sacking last season.<\/p>\n

The Welshman, who made a record 963 appearances for the club as a player, won two, drew one and lost one during his time in charge.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Van Gaal says United have offered goalkeeper David De Gea “a lot of money” to keep him at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

De Gea’s fine form this season has seen the 24-year-old linked with a move back to Spain, with reports<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> European champions Real Madrid are lining up a move for the former Atletico Madrid player.<\/p>\n

His contract at United expires at the end of next season.<\/p>\n

“It takes a long time now,” Van Gaal said when asked how negotiations with De Gea were progressing.<\/p>\n

“It can always happen. I am not the boss. I want him to stay. The player is the boss – he can say ‘yes’ or ‘no’.<\/p>\n

“He has to sign. We have offered him a lot of money.”<\/p>\n

De Gea joined United from Atletico in June 2011.<\/p>\n
