The General Secretary of the Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet has hinted\u00a0that the party will not re-elect presidential candidates who failed to secure political power for the party.<\/p>\n

Ivor Greenstreet made the statement while addressing delegates in Wa in the Upper West region during the party\u2019s regional congress which was held in the area on over the weekend.<\/p>\n

In a subsequent interview with Citi News<\/strong> Upper West Regional Correspondent Latif Mahama, Mr Greenstreet clarified that his statement was not to destroy the chances of the immediate past presidential candidate, Dr Abu Sakara.<\/p>\n

“I have a good relationship with him, but we need to correct certain issues before the 2016 general elections or we risk losing again. In the last elections we got only 57 votes in his constuency, in some polling stations we got zero though we had party agents.”<\/p>\n

Among the 8 presidential candidates in the 2012 presidential race, Dr Abu Sakara ranked 6th with about 0.18% of the total votes cast.<\/p>\n

The PNC’s Hassan Ayariga, GCPP’s Henry Larty and PPP’s Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom did better.<\/p>\n

Dr Greenstreet told the delegates that CPP does not have a presidential candidate yet, and should not be swayed\u00a0by some members carrying themselves as candidates.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter all your regional congresses we are going to a national congresses to elect new national executives. At the moment CPP does not have a flag bearer. After the national executives are elected we will then go and choose a flag bearer…who will lead the party in the 2016 election.\u201d<\/p>\n

In all a 13-member executives were elected to stair the affairs of the party in the Upper West Region.<\/p>\n

They include: Elyasu Yussif Baba (Chairman), \u00a0Seidu Mogtare (1st Vice), Alhaji Yussif Limain (2nd Vice), Issahaque Suleman (Secretary), Issahaku Jargu Sanda (Education Secretary), Elizabeth Mounah (Women\u2019s Organiser), Francis Baladong (Organiser) \u00a0and Ishmael Yussif (Youth Organiser).<\/p>\n

Mr Greenstreet charged the executives to work tirelessly to get credible and trustworthy persons to contest as parliamentary candidates in the region to win elections in the 2016 polls.<\/p>\n

The party\u2019s former National Chairman, Professor Delle, Dr Abu Sakara, National Chair of CPP, Samia Nkrumah, General Secretary, Ivor Greenstreet were at the Wa conference.<\/p>\n

CPP’s previous presidential candidates<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Abu Sakara was the CPP’s presidential candidate in the 2012 elections.<\/p>\n

Prior to his nomination was Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom who led the party in the 2008 presidential elections broke away to\u00a0form the\u00a0Progressive People’s Party (PPP).<\/p>\n
