The Bureau of Public Safety(BPS) is asking South African business moguls in Ghana to impress on the South African government to end xenophobic attacks in their country or risk a boycott of their businesses in Ghana.<\/p>\n
The BPS in a statement condemned the attacks on foreigners in South Africa which have led to the death of six people including a Ghanaian.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”jnQxzWhjyII7pCIjgAzoVLkvailoISbZ”]The Executive Director of the BPS, Nana Yaw Akwada, said the BPS is concerned with the safety of foreigners, especially Ghanaians in South Africa and called on the government of Ghana to act immediately.<\/p>\n
“We have indeed given the people of South Africa five days that they must halt these ceasless attacks on foreign nationals.Failure to see very bold and obvious steps being taken to control the situation, will compel the Bureau of Public Safety to embark on a campaign to boycott all South African shops in our country and we are going to extend this to other West African countries by all legitimate means,”Mr. Akwada said.<\/p>\n
“What is happening in South Africa is purely rooted in economics so we think that the economic community should also show\u00a0concern and we are asking them to impress on the government of South Africa to take actions to halt this and restore the rights and peace of people living in the country,”he added.<\/p>\n
Several people<\/strong><\/span><\/a> have condemned the attack and called on the South African government to take measures to end the problem.<\/p>\n Meanwhile the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has called on Ghanaians in South Africa to restrain their movement until peace and calm is restored.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The Ministry further asked the South African government to take all immediate and necessary steps to protect African immigrants in South Africa and provide the necessary assurances for their safety.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
