The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh has confirmed that one Ghanaian, Emmanuel Quarcoo has been killed as a result of the xenophobic attacks in South Africa<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

According to Hannah Tetteh, Emmanuel was found dead by the roadside with head injuries.<\/p>\n

“The\u00a0matter is being investigated by the South African Police and our embassy is following up on this matter. There will be a meeting at the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs with African ambassadors today to discuss the matters. Our Embassy will advise on the need for evacuation of Ghanaian citizens if necessary,\u201d she tweeted.<\/p>\n

At least five people have been killed<\/strong><\/a> <\/span>in the last two weeks in attacks in \u00a0Durban that targeted shops and homes owned by Somalis, Ethiopians, Malawians and other immigrants.<\/p>\n

The attacks were triggered by\u00a0alleged comments made by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini telling migrants to go home \u2013 although he said he was misquoted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma has condemned the attacks and has called for calm.<\/p>\n
