The losing candidate in the University of Ghana\u2019s Student Representative Council (SRC) presidential election has denied being behind the arrest of the software developer whose software was used in the voting process.<\/p>\n

Mikdad Mohammed on the Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong> said he was surprised at the turn of events and swore that he was innocent of the allegations being leveled against him.<\/p>\n

The software developer, Stephen Forson was in the early hours of Tuesday picked up by some officials of the Bureau of National Investigations\u00a0(BNI)<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>for allegedly manipulating the election results in favour of one candidate.<\/p>\n

Since his arrest and detention, there have been speculations that the losing candidate is reportedly affiliated to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) hence, the national security\u2019s interest in the matter.<\/p>\n

But Mikdad Mohammed has dismissed any affiliations to the NDC and alleged that some of members of his campaign team who were members of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) were threatened with expulsion from the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been non-partisan since my level 100 days. My campaign manager was threatened with expulsion from the New Patriotic Party because he was supporting a supposed NDC candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that his opponents \u201csuccessfully hounded off key members of my campaign team\u2026they made some big men call the people on phone and threaten them with expulsion from the political party.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mohammed admitted that he indeed did not like the outcome of the school\u2019s SRC elections but since the internal structures are currently being used to resolve the issue, the BNI\u2019s involvement is out of place.<\/p>\n

He appealed to the security operatives to release Mr. Forson, adding that, \u201cthere should be respect for the due process of the law and there should be respect for his fundamental human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
