A family at Accra Palladium has accused medical staff on duty at the Ussher Polyclinic of negligence leading to the death of their relative, one Ezekiel Hoffman.<\/p>\n
Wife of the deceased, Dora Hoffman told Citi news medical team on duty on Monday April 6, that treated her 36-year-old husband, at the facility did not act with the required urgency.<\/p>\n
According to her, Ezekiel Hoffman was rushed to the facility at about 2am but did not receive immediate care because nurses on duty were asleep.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we got to the clinic, we knocked on the door several times, but there was no response. We even wanted to go to another hospital when someone directed us to the doctor\u2019s office. When we knocked on the doctor\u2019s door, she responded immediately and came out to meet us\u201d, Dora narrated what happened to Citi news.<\/p>\n
She said the Doctor after asking her husband a few questions prescribed some drugs and re-directed them to the nurses\u2019 office, adding, \u201cwe had to knock on the door again; it took a while before a nurse answered. It was almost 3am and I was wondering how nurses who are supposed to be on duty would be sleeping this deep\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mother of the deceased, Angela Addo is convinced her son would have been alive if he had received proper care.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the IV infusion run out, I went to call the nurses, but they refused to come. My daughter went again before a nurse came to see him and just took out the infusion. I asked her what we could do, but she said, until we bought the prescribed drugs, there was nothing they could do. I even told her to tell the doctor we couldn\u2019t get all of the drugs and asked if they could give us alternatives, but she said nothing and left. So we called another male nurse, but he ignored us too, which made my daughter confront him. He got angry, took off his gloves and left us there.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou see, there are times doctors do their best and yet the patient does not survive. We cannot say same\u201d, she narrated and added, \u201cthey told us nothing concerning his situation. The doctor only asked him what was wrong and wrote his prescription.\u00a0 They said he died from an alcohol infection, then they said from a food poisoning, but the postmortem indicated that he died from heart attack. At least if the doctor had put in more efforts he may have detected it\u201d.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, management of Ussher Clinic has denied its team on duty contributed to Ezekiel Hoffman\u2019s death.\u00a0 According to them, the deceased was not sent to the facility on time and that its members did their best to save the situation.<\/p>\n
