{"id":106438,"date":"2015-04-08T13:08:31","date_gmt":"2015-04-08T13:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=106438"},"modified":"2015-04-08T16:02:43","modified_gmt":"2015-04-08T16:02:43","slug":"ghana-loses-out-on-hosting-afcon-2017-to-gabon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=106438","title":{"rendered":"Ghana loses out on hosting AFCON 2017 to Gabon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana has lost out on hosting the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after the\u00a0Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) settled on Gabon.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana, Algeria and eventual winners Gabon were the three countries left in the bidding process for the tournament.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Haya.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-106446\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Haya.jpg\" alt=\"Haya\" width=\"599\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Haya.jpg 599w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Haya-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ghana can only get another shot at hosting the tournament after 2023 because\u00a0Cameroon will host it in 2019,\u00a0Ivory Coast in 2021 and\u00a0Guinea 2023.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CCEd-ThWEAA8Mgn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-106439\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CCEd-ThWEAA8Mgn.jpg\" alt=\"CCEd-ThWEAA8Mgn\" width=\"619\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CCEd-ThWEAA8Mgn.jpg 960w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/CCEd-ThWEAA8Mgn-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ghana&#8217;s bidding team was led by Ghana Football Association boss Kwesi Nyantakyi and former Black Stars captain Abedi Ayew Pele.<\/p>\n<p>Gabon gets to host the Nations Cup again after sharing it with Equitorial Guinea in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The former Minister for Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga in August 2014, <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/26\/ghana-to-launch-bid-for-afcon-2017-2\/#sthash.ZILMWq5d.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>announced Ghana&#8217;s intensions<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to host the tournament after Libya withdrew as original hosts.<\/p>\n<p>He hoped that the hosting of the tournament would\u00a0\u201c&#8230; Improve the existing sub structures.
