{"id":105017,"date":"2015-04-03T13:59:08","date_gmt":"2015-04-03T13:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=105017"},"modified":"2015-04-03T13:59:08","modified_gmt":"2015-04-03T13:59:08","slug":"chrysler-ordered-to-pay-149m-for-jeep-crash-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=105017","title":{"rendered":"Chrysler ordered to pay $149m for Jeep crash death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A US jury has awarded $150m (\u00a3100m) to the family of a four-year old boy that died in a crash involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Remington Walden died after the Jeep he was travelling was struck from behind by a truck, which ruptured its rear fuel tank causing it to ignite.<\/p>\n<p>Chrysler will pay 99% of the sum and the driver of the other vehicle 1%.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013 Chrysler recalled 1.56 million Jeep SUVs built between 1993-98 with similar rear fuel tanks.<\/p>\n<p>The model Remington died in was built in 1999 and was therefore not among those recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Chrysler said that the 1999 model was not defective and dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>But jurors said the car giant was liable for the death and the company had failed to warn customers that the tank&#8217;s position could increase the risk of a fire.<\/p>\n<p>The family claimed their son would have been better protected if the tank was placed further forward in the car.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A US jury has awarded $150m (\u00a3100m) to the family of a four-year old boy that died in a crash involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2012.
