increase in electricity and water prices<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by 2.63% and 1.06% respectively.<\/p>\nThe Commission after widespread public outrage explained that increasing the tariffs was to enable the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) effectively manage the ongoing load shedding exercise.<\/p>\n
But the TDCL says it is \u201csurprised about the ill-timing of the utility tariff increases as PURC is perfectly aware that electricity is virtually non-existent and most at times erratic, thus bringing a lot of economic discomfort and hardship on workers, industries, the community and our families.\u201d<\/p>\n
TDCL in a statement claimed that the \u201cPURC is being insensitive to the woes of Ghanaians\u2026by slapping this ill-timed utility increases on us.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Union argued that \u201cconsumers and industries are spending extra income on the acquisition of generator sets, plants and other alternative sources of electricity power.\u201d<\/p>\n
The TDCL is however urging the PURC to immediately reverse the utility tariffs unconditionally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot afford to take any pesewa increase in utility tariffs in the midst of hardship workers are going through as a result of the electricity power outages.\u201d<\/p>\n
