{"id":104534,"date":"2015-04-01T16:06:12","date_gmt":"2015-04-01T16:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=104534"},"modified":"2015-12-31T16:13:38","modified_gmt":"2015-12-31T16:13:38","slug":"npp-defers-controversial-affirmative-action-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=104534","title":{"rendered":"NPP defers controversial affirmative action policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has deferred\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/23\/npp-parliamentary-primaries-set-for-may-24\/#sthash.iK1BxrIs.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>controversial affirmative action policy<\/strong><\/span><\/a> which was going to guide the party ahead of its Parliamentary primaries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The decision was taken on Wednesday when the National Council of the party met to deliberate on the matter which has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/24\/photos-protestors-who-beseiged-npps-party-head-office\/#sthash.G7EqQYre.3wmGrJje.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>generated anger<\/strong><\/a><\/span> among some of the party members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;efQFbDfJ6bVU20QUEgU62l4iRriMKK7m&#8221;]The policy sought\u00a0to secure seats for female Members Parliament (MPs) and indigenous Gas but many of the party members did not agree.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Franklin Badu Jnr reported that \u201cThe affirmative action policy though was commended by the National Council was deferred\u00a0 for thorough work to be done by congress in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him,\u00a0as it stands all aspiring MPs can contest now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile the date for the NPP primaries has been rescheduled from May 24 to 13th June, 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vetting of aspirants has been slated for 4th to 8th May, 2015 and results will be published on 11th May.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Filing fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow on the fees, all aspirants will pay filling fees of GHc10,000 in all constituencies. However those aspirants who are youth\u00a0 and females\u00a0 will pay half\u00a0 of this amount. Again all those contesting in constituencies where we have sitting MPs will pay development fees of GH c20,000 in addition to the filing fees.
