Nigeria\u2019s President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to rid the country of the Islamist Militant group, Boko Haram.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”diQ1hu1ccT6TBEcBrgQJQrubGmR1zr1E”]General Buhari acknowledged that Nigerians have faced many afflictions with the operations of Boko Haram but stated that no effort shall be spared until terrorism is defeated.<\/p>\n
Speaking after receiving his certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the President-elect said: \u201cNo doubt, this nation has suffered greatly in the recent past and its stay in power has been tested to its limits by crisis \u2013 chief amongst them in the insurgence by Boko Haram.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBy tackling the insurgency, we have a tough job to do but I assure you that Boko Haram will soon know the strength of our collective will and the commitment to rid this nation of terror and bring back peace in all the affected areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
The rise in terrorist activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria and neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger has raised serious security concerns in the West African sub-region.<\/p>\n
Boko Haram since 2009 has killed thousands of people both in north-eastern Nigeria and until recently, in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.<\/p>\n
According to statistics, about 3.2 million Nigerians have fled their homes to escape Boko Haram\u2019s insurgency in north-eastern Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The African Union (AU) has agreed to set up multi-national force<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to combat and defeat Boko Haram.<\/p>\n According to Buhari, Nigeria currently wrestles many challenges including; insecurity, corruption and economic decline but pledged to give his best to tackle these problems.<\/p>\n He however charged Nigerian citizens to support his efforts saying, \u201cyour obligation does not end with casting your ballot. I seek your voice and input and we tackle these problems.\u201d<\/p>\n Jonathan has nothing to fear<\/strong><\/p>\n Buhari further extend a hand of friendship and reconciliation to incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan and his team and gave the assurance that he habours \u201cno evil against anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLet me state clearly that President Jonathan has nothing to fear from me although we may not agree on the method of governing the nation.
