{"id":103851,"date":"2015-03-30T15:04:26","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T15:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=103851"},"modified":"2015-03-30T15:11:19","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T15:11:19","slug":"ivory-coast-questions-ghanas-data-in-oil-dispute-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=103851","title":{"rendered":"Ivory Coast questions Ghana&#8217;s data in oil dispute case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the second day of legal proceedings at the International Tribunal of the Sea in Hamburg, Germany, Ivory Coast is questioning the credibility of data and maps presented by Ghana to justify her claim over the Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme (TEN) fields operated by Tullow Oil.<\/p>\n<p>An external lawyer for Ivory Coast stated that \u201cGhana cannot be trusted to have independently secured these maps and the data without Ivory Coast having copies\u201d and added that \u201csince these maps are in the sole possession of Ghana they should be prevented from using them in this litigation, because the authenticity of these maps cannot be independently verified.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_103856\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-103856\" style=\"width: 475px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/one-of-the-maps-Ghana-presented-in-court.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-103856\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/one-of-the-maps-Ghana-presented-in-court.png\" alt=\"One of the maps Ghana presented in court to support her case\" width=\"475\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/one-of-the-maps-Ghana-presented-in-court.png 475w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/one-of-the-maps-Ghana-presented-in-court-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-103856\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the maps Ghana presented in court to support her case<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Concluding the oral arguments for Cote D\u2019 Ivoire Dr Ibrahima Diaby, Director-General of Hydrocarbons, Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, reiterated the need for the provisional measures to be granted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at the written and oral submissions by Cote d\u2019 Ivoire and without prejudice to the decision on the merit of the case, we request this special chamber to prescribe provisional measures that Ghana take\u00a0 all steps to suspend oil exploration and exploitations in the disputed area. They also want Ghana to \u201crefrain from granting any new permits for oil exploration and exploitation in the disputed area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They are also asking that the tribunal directs Ghana to take steps necessary to prevent information that resulted from the past, ongoing or future exploration conducted by Ghana or with its authorization in the disputed area from being used in any way whatever to the detriment of Cote d\u2019 Ivoire.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Q4wDBjl9EkbHs65BeXalZjSpILEM68h2&#8243;]Cote d\u2019 Ivoire also wants Ghana to desist and refrain from any unilateral action entailing a risk of prejudice to the rights of Cote d\u2019 Ivoire and any unilateral action that might lead to aggravating the dispute. He finally thanked the registrar \u201cfor the remarkable quality of their work\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Ghanaian team yesterday argued that if the court upholds Ivory Coast\u2019s claim over the oil fields, it would result in a huge loss to Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s legal team opened its defense at the International Tribunal of the law of the Sea (ITLOS) after Ivory Coast sued Ghana, seeking to stop Tullow Oil and its partners from exploring oil over a disputed oil block.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute involves ownership of portions of the country&#8217;s second biggest oil field the TEN projects.
