The Ministry of Finance is asking the vice presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to apologize for peddling \u201cfalsehood\u201d about the Ghanaian economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”xiTPTdBzghlkYK1VkX2pXwEdVbJuGHVY”]Dr Bawumia during a recent lecture on Ghana’s economy and the bailout deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), among other things asserted that the African Development Bank (AfDB) has sanctioned Ghana<\/strong><\/a><\/span> for non-payment of debt owed the institution.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the AfDB denied the claim<\/strong><\/a><\/span> \u00a0and attributed the wrong impression to an administrative error that occurred on February 15, <\/sup>2015 but which was subsequently corrected upon notice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reacting to Dr Bawumia\u2019s claims, Deputy Finance Minister,\u00a0Cassiel Ato Forson\u00a0said the lecture was full of factual inaccuracies and should be disregarded.<\/span><\/p>\n

He argued that the former deputy Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor could have easily crosschecked his data with his former institution (rather than relying “on hearsay.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor you to go out to say that the African development bank have blacklisted Ghana, I think its very unfortunate because it\u2019s not based on facts,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He further explained that government intends to issue a bond soon but lamented that Bawumia\u2019s \u201cbaseless\u201d claims could deter investors from patronizing the bond.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat this has done to Ghana, tomorrow we are going to the bond market, we have a five year that we are hoping to be very successful, he\u2019s end up sending fear and panic to the investing community. I think he should come and apologize because the signal that he sent there is not good at all, he sent wrong signal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
