The Nigerian government has announced it will close its land and sea borders on the eve of March 28, 2015, ahead of the country\u2019s general\u00a0elections.<\/p>\n

According to a press release signed by the Permanent Secretary at Nigeria\u2019s Interior Ministry, Engr. Abubakar G. Magaji, the borders will be closed “from 12:00 midnight on Saturday 28th March, 2015.”<\/p>\n

This is \u201cto allow for peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nigeria Immigration Service has also been directed to ensure that non-Nigerians do not participate in any part of the election processes,\u201d the released added.<\/p>\n

Nigeria election postponed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nigeria\u2019s election, which was scheduled for February 14th, was postponed to March 28th<\/strong><\/a><\/span> because of security reasons.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian Electoral Commission said the postponement will give a newly-formed multinational force, the opportunity to reclaim areas controlled by militant group, Boko Haram which has consistently been terrorizing.<\/p>\n

ECOWAS will ensure successful Nigeria elections \u2013 Mahama<\/strong><\/p>\n

President John Dramani Mahama has said the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will do everything possible to ensure that Nigeria\u2019s upcoming elections are successfully held.<\/p>\n

President Mahama, who is also the Chiarman of ECOWAS said this when he met with the Chairman of the INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega and his team to discuss the state of their preparedness for the March 28 elections.<\/p>\n

He described the upcoming election as \u201ccritical\u201d adding that \u201cit will be one more indication to the world that Nigeria is a democratic country ruled by the tenets of good governance and the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n
