attributed the developments in the country to the \u201crobust and responsive democracy, including a sharp increase in child immunization rates, huge advances in pre-primary education and Ghana\u2019s status as one of only a handful of non-OECD nations to provide free and universal health coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the ODI report also indicated a seeming neglect of rural areas, highlighting a slower rate of growth in those parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/public-schools.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-30985 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/public-schools.jpg\" alt=\"public schools\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/public-schools.jpg 450w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/public-schools-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It noted that \u201cchild mortality is four times higher in the north of the country than in the wealthier western region and women in rural areas report an average of 7 years of schooling, while women in urban areas report 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, uptake of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) membership ranges from 13% in the Central region to 70% in the Upper West region in 2008.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6136\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6136\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Nana-Addo1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6136 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Nana-Addo1.jpg\" alt=\"Nana Akufo Addo is the flagbearer of the biggest opposition party NPP\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6136\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nana Akufo Addo is the flagbearer of the biggest opposition party NPP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A panel discussion to mark the launch of the report and to assess the progress Ghana has made in both political voice and democratization, as well as in its health and education services will take place today at the La Palm Royal beach Hotel at 3:30 pm and will be broadcast live on <strong>Citi 97.3 FM.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the panel are Deputy Education Minister in charge of Tertiary education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa,\u00a0\u00a0Dr. Richard Winfred Anane, a former Health Minister, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee,\u00a0 Vitus Azeem, Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative (Transparency International), Franklin Cudjoe, Executive Director Imani Ghana and \u00a0Alina Rocha Menocal, Senior Fellow at the Developmental Leadership Program.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be moderated by the Director of News and Programming at\u00a0<strong>Citi FM <\/strong>and host of the<strong> Citi Breakfast Show,<\/strong>\u00a0Bernard Koku Avle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Edwin Kwakofi\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghanaians are the becoming healthier, better educated, more politically enfranchised and freer to express their views than any other African nation, a new report released by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) has found.
