A civil society organization calling itself, the Alliance for Safeguarding the Integrity of the Security Services (ASISS), has warned against what they say is indiscriminate sale of the Ghana Armed forces’ properties.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”Jyn56iOhSzvHOIGlyfbaP65ih4lAwOaU”]They catalogued a number of lands and properties that they claim have been sold or given to private developers including the No.1 Roman ridge residence, Army officers Mess, 1 Drake Avenue, Labadi Villa\u2019s land and Teshie Camp (portions have been sold).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe official residence of the CDS of the Ghana Armed Forces situated off the road opposite Accra Girls Senior High School. We are aware of plans having been far advanced to sell this huge property under very suspicious arrangements,\u201d they revealed.<\/p>\n
They lamented that such activities have crippled the expansion and development of the service.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is worrying that some of the properties allegedly being sold out are vital to the growth and advancement of the services,\u201d the group stated in a press release.<\/p>\n
‘Selling spree’ not only in Accra<\/strong><\/p>\n The civil society group also observed that “the selling spree is not only in Accra but it is going on around other garrisons across the country,” adding that such activities are dangerous for the service since “when all lands are sold out, then some of our future officers and men will be required to live in individual homes.\u201d<\/p>\n They further questioned the rationale and the people behind the sale of such properties insisting that \u201cthese properties belong to the nation, and citizens have the right to know all circumstances surrounding their sale. If no satisfactory and reasonable reasons are given, we shall use all means at our disposal to stop private developments taking place on those properties.\u201d<\/p>\n We are ready to sacrifice our lives to protect our heritage<\/strong><\/p>\n They\u00a0advise all developers involved to take the necessary steps to recover their monies and stay away from these precious service properties because “we are ready to sacrifice our lives to protect our heritage, of course, these are a heritage worth dying for.”<\/p>\n They also cautioned all “elements in the Ghana Armed Forces involved in depriving the GAF of its properties that the day of reckoning is not too far away.
