{"id":100008,"date":"2015-03-17T06:23:40","date_gmt":"2015-03-17T06:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=100008"},"modified":"2015-03-17T06:23:40","modified_gmt":"2015-03-17T06:23:40","slug":"npp-to-speak-on-woyome-case-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=100008","title":{"rendered":"NPP to speak on Woyome case today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today [Tuesday] state its official position on the High Court ruling that acquitted and discharged businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.<\/p>\n<p>The payment of the 51 million Ghana cedis to Alfred Agbesi Woyome was one of the major campaign messages of the NPP in the 2012 election.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s press conference which will be addressed by party General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong will also touch on Mr. Woyome\u2019s latest accusation that the Attorney-General Marrita Brew Oppong <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/16\/ag-received-ghc1-4-m-from-judgment-debt-cash-woyome\/#sthash.0OkMIlnA.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>also benefited from the 51 million cedis<\/strong><\/span><\/a> judgment debt paid to him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10811\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10811\" style=\"width: 431px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/aggg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10811\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/aggg.jpg\" alt=\"Marieta Brew Appiah Oppong , Attorney General\" width=\"431\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/aggg.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/aggg-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/aggg-1024x679.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10811\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marieta Brew Appiah Oppong , Attorney General<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The Woyome saga<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;oHyxc3Sg3TvT1UWtBxXoP14tozQYGhQ3&#8243;]Woyome was standing trial on two counts of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense after he was\u00a0paid GHC 51 million for a job he did for the government ahead of the 2008 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which Ghana\u00a0hosted.<\/p>\n<p>But according to the prosecution, Woyome put in false claims by stating that he was entitled to the amount because the government had abrogated a contract for the construction of stadia for the AFCON Africa, when according to the prosecution, there was no such contract.<\/p>\n<p>Woyome was however\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/12\/and-alfred-woyome-walks\/#sthash.HESfdGaw.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>acquitted and discharged<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>by an Accra High Court on Thursday on both counts.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge before delivering his judgment, chastised the state prosecutors failing to call key witnesses to adequately prosecute the case<\/p>\n<p>The AG&#8217;s department \u00a0has however declared its intentions of appealing the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The AG, Marietta Brew-Appiah Oppong\u00a0said: \u201cWe disagree completely with the judgment of the court.
