The Agogo Youth Association (AYA), has lifted the two-month long ban on all political activities in the area.

The ban which was issued in January was in protest of the presence of Fulani herdsmen in the area.

Agogo  residents have been agitating for the eviction of all Nomadic Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from the area.

They have accused the herdsmen of destroying their crops and killing their relatives.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the Agogo Youth Association, Alfred Gyimah indicated that their decision to lift the ban is to enable all political parties in the area to partake in the limited voters registration exercise.

“The general public is hereby notified that, the ban on all political activities in Agogo and its surrounding villages which was placed by Agogo Youth Association, Agogo farmers Associations and Agogoman mma kuo on February 23 2016 has been lifted with immediate effect. The decision to lift the ban was taken at a meeting held on April 26 by leadership of Agogo youth association and Agogoman mma kuo.”

The association further pleaded with the various political parties “to ensure the safety of our people as they come to our town to campaign.”

Further speaking to Citi News, Mr. Gyimah  said during the heat of the Fulani menace, they petitioned President John Mahama to intervene but said despite the petition, “we can’t wait for our people to still suffer and not get registered. That is why we decided to lift the ban so that our people can participate in the upcoming limited voter registration exercise and also allow political parties to campaign here.”
