The Bawku West Police Command, is to form 54 watchdog committees as part of measures to fight crime.

The new District Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Honu Boni, who took over from ASP James Ankan, made this known in an interview at Zebilla.

[contextly_sidebar id=”z1aAlR6vcZRPSpfu9UW1nKHBfEJZ28ES”]He appealed to the youth to register with their Assembly members to be part of the committees, and assured the public of police confidentiality and professionalism.

He entreated the people to report criminal cases to his outfit for appropriate action, since the police need their help to be able to work efficiently.

ASP Boni asked the public to report criminal cases in secrecy and not brag about it, since that could hinder police investigation and also endanger the whistle blower’s life.

The District in recent times has recorded series of criminal cases including robbery attacks, some of which resulted in fatalities.

Vandalism in Bawku

A number of violent attacks have been recorded the Bawku township.

In August 2015 the youth in the area vandalised the armoury and one patrol vehicle at the Bawku Police Station to demand the release of a Mallarmé, Alhaji Osman Miigah.

In process of their protest two persons were injured after a shooting incident.
