The Minister for Transportation, Fifi Kwetey, has called on political parties to advocate for best practices on roads ahead of the general elections this year.
Speaking at a forum organized by the National Commission for Road Safety, the Transport Minister addressed the frequent occurrence of accidents adding that statistics show that accidents are rampant during the period of elections.

“The general elections is just around the corner and over the years such occasions have been marred with increased road traffic crashes and fatalities as a result of indiscipline,” Mr. Kwetey noted.
The Transport Minister thus urged political parties to use their platforms to draw the attention of the public to regulations associated with road safety ahead of this year’s elections.
“I therefore wish to appeal to the general public especially the leadership of the various political parties to caution drivers and followers who will be going along various political programs to observe the rules of the road,” he added.
He further urged the public to avoid unnecessary speeding, drunk driving, wrongful overtaking, the use of mobile phones while driving and other behaviors that contradict road safety regulations.
