The newly inaugurated Chamber of Pharmacy Ghana, has cautioned its members against attempts to defraud the National Health Insurance Authority ( NHIA).

The Chairman of the Chamber, Harrison Kofi Abutiate, asked members of the chamber to rather collaborate with the Authority to eradicate or reduce health insurance related  fraud in the country.

Several official reports have over the years cited some health service providers and some pharmaceutical companies for submitting fraudulent bills to the NHIA.

Speaking to the media at the inauguration of the Chamber, Mr. Abutiate said his administration will punish any member who attempts to defraud the NHIS.

“We are going to meet our people and let them know that the chamber wants straightforward business. If you are caught you will be penalized. We want people to know that we have to be straightforward with ourselves so the government will also be straightforward…”

We’ll close NHIA gap

The caution comes at a time when the NHIA is facing various challenges including a widening deficit gap. The Authority has however given the assurance it will take effective measures to address the problem.
