The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, has downplayed opposition parties call on President John Dramani Mahama to within one-week reduce what they have termed ‘killer’ electricity tariffs.
The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), the People’s National Convention (PNC), the All Peoples Congress (APC), and others, at a joint news conference admonished President Mahama to reduce electricity tariffs or incur their wrath.
Their Spokesperson, who doubles as the NPP’s Northern Regional Communication Director, Mohammed Abdul Kudus, described the electricity tariff hikes as a mark of insensitivity to small scale industry players in the region, hence their demand for a reduction.
[contextly_sidebar id=”5mXdUmS9ZgYJapfRnJEBEK3mfzbdJ6Eq”]But the NDC Northern Regional Communications Director, Abdul Mumin Alhassan, in a rebuttal, described the call as misplaced.
Abdul Mumin in a Citi News interview advised the agitators to redirect their call to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for redress.
He said the NPP-led news conference sought to gain cheap political capital out of the electricity tariff hikes.
He said President Mahama is focused on delivering his mandate and would not be disrupted by the dictates of the opposition parties.
Abdul Mumin touted the Mahama led NDC administration as the best for the unprecedented infrastructural development spread across the Northern Region.
He mentioned the Fufulso-Sawla road, the Eastern Corridor Road, expansion and upgrading of the Tamale Teaching Hospital as well as the expansion and upgrading of the Tamale Airport as some of the major projects constructed in the region.
