According to him, “People died during this rainy season but it’s not a matter of the flooding situation.”
Mr. Amatey, had already revealed to Citi News that that the first recorded deaths involved two children, aged three and one, who drowned in a pond around their residence at Wenge, a community within the Gomoa East district.
The other three deaths occurred when a wall, weakened by the heavy rains, fell on three persons at Kissi Kwahenkrom in KEEA. The fatalities in this incident were two middle-aged women and an eight-year-old-girl, who died after the wall collapsed on them.
Mr. Amatey also noted that three boys drowned in the region, two in Swedru. A young boy was also electrocuted in the township of Amamoma.
A 15-year-old Junior high school student was also in her room when a wall collapsed on her.
“We also had a situation where two boys got drowned in one of the rivers at Swedru. Also there was the death of a young boy of about 9 who was electrocuted at Amamoma… We also had a situation of a 15-year old girl who was returning from her BECE exams sleeping in her room when a wall collapsed on her.”
