Pencils of Promise, an international non-governmental organization with its national headquarters in Ho, has provided a 4-unit classroom block for kindergarten pupils of Logba-Alakpeti Evangelical Presbyterian School in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region.
The facility which came with an office and a store was constructed in collaboration with the Afadjato South District Assembly at a cost of GHc300,000.
The Headmistress of the school, Madam Mabel Adiku recounted that, the pupils hitherto were housed in corrugated zinc structures which was not suitable in all weather conditions. She said it also did little to save the pupils from the invasion of stray animals and activities of ‘wee’ smokers.
“You can all bear with me that the Logba-Alakpeti Kindergarten School has been struggling with stray animals and wee smokers who continuously soiled and slept in the classrooms after school hours”.
Expressing her gratitude, the headmistress said the gesture would go a long way to improve learning and teaching activities in the school.
Mr. Freeman Gobah, the Country Director of Pencils of Promise, reiterated the organization’s commitment to provide educational opportunities for pupils in developing countries and called on all stakeholders particularly District Assemblies to actively support them.
