The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Manhyia North in the Ashanti Region, Collins Owusu Amankwaah, says he has forgiven the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi for allegedly assaulting him.
This comes after Mr. Amankwaah wrote to the court asking it to drop all charges brought against Chairman Wontumi after he was arrested and charged for assault.

The NPP Regional Chairman turned himself in to the Police after he was declared wanted following the allegations of assault leveled against him.
A letter written by counsel for the Mr. Amankwaah, revealed that their clients’ intended to pursue an out of court settlement. But the MP in an interview with Citi News said Chairman Wontumi should not be blamed for his action because he acted based on wrong information.
Speaking to Citi News, the MP said his decision to forgive Chairman Wontumi was because he believed the rift between him and the regional chairman was engineered by his opponent.
“The issue was orchestrated by my opponent who is also doing everything possible to come into the limelight in the constituency but I think his strategy is an evil one,” Mr. Amankwaah stated.
The MP further noted that his efforts would now be focused on attaining the NPP’s target of 80 percent of the popular vote in the upcoming general elections in November.
“I want to play my part and by doing that, we will ensure that we present a united front as a party in the constituency. I am not interested in engaging in anything that will thwart our efforts at ensuring our 80 percent target.”
