Some prospective recruits for the Ghana Police Service have told Citi News that they want to join the service because of the lack of jobs in the country.
Since the announcement of the sale of Police recruitment vouchers, thousands of unemployed youth have thronged various branches of the GCB bank across the country to make purchases.
Some of them who interacted with Citi News on their motivation to join the service, said they have no choice because of the difficulty in securing jobs in the country.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Isl57NQW5pPPHDPvvaJgzDt8BCnpbXHG”]One of them said “it is very difficult in getting job in this economy so you can see, that is why all the guys are running to that side.”
“The reason why I personally want to buy the form is because I need to be employed, I need to work, and life has to go on so that’s the reason,” he added.
Another one said breaking through in Ghana “is not about passion. You don’t need passion for something. If it’s about passion then you will virtually not make it. So it is where life will push you to so it’s also an employment avenue. So we are just trying our luck.”
Another one said “it is my heart desire because when I was young everybody use to call me policeman so in future I want to become a police.”
“Right now in the country, there is no employment so whenever the police forms are out, I must get in and buy some,” another said.
A lady who also spoke to Citi News said she wanted to be recruited into the service because of lack of jobs.
“There is no job in town. We don’t know what to do and we must survive too,” she added.
Mad rush for Police forms: Over 17,000 vouchers sold
The GCB bank last week announced that it has so far sold over 17,000 recruitment vouchers to the public.
The Police Service contracted GCB to sell the vouchers at GHc100 on its behalf to enable prospective recruits to register online.
