Organized Labour awards chief of Kpando Gadza

As part of activities to mark this year’s May Day celebration held in Wa last Sunday, Organized Labour awarded one of Ghana’s traditional rulers, Torgbui Kodzoga V, the chief of Kpando Gadza in the Volta region.

The chief was awarded in recognition of his contribution to the growth and sustainability of the Communication Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress(TUC) of Ghana.

Known in private life as Ernest Kojo Apreku, Torgbui Kodzoga V, who is also the warlord of the Kpando Apkini traditional area, was among 29 other distinguished personalities who received national awards at the May Day parade held at the capital of the Upper West region.

According to his citation, “Torgbui Kodzoga V was one of the pioneers who persistently fought for the formation of the first Professional and Managerial Staff Union(PMSU) of the Communications Workers Union of the TUC.

The citation further recognized the chief as “a dynamic young man” who, by his diligence, effectiveness and efficiency, contributed to the formulation of policies that benefit many Ghanaian workers.

In an interview with Citi News, Torgbui Kodzoga, who works as Customer Project Manager at Erricson AB Ghana, expressed appreciation for the award and advised employees in the country to always strive to do their best in their chosen endeavors.

He said “we need to get committed to whatever we are assigned to do. Once we do that, then we are sure that we are doing our part to improve the environment that we work in.”

Comenting on what earned him the national award, Torgbui said “I took a step of faith as an employee who believes in fairness. I feel i could do more to help other colleagues with much better conditions of service. I think this is what motivated me to go into Labour issues.”

He however emphasized the need for employers in the country to take the plight and concerns of workers more seriously.

According to him, ” the employee is the most critical asset to every organisation and employers must make sure employees’ concerns are addressed swiftly so that the work environment is peaceful for us to contribute to national development.”
