Growing up in the poor suburbs of Jamestown in Accra, with the talent of a great footballer, I thought I would turn out as one. Today I’m an international award-winning journalist working with one of the country’s most influential media houses, Citi FM.
I work with some of the world’s respected media houses; the New York Times, Radio France International and AFP. I have also had the opportunity to do some work for The Daily Mail and The Sun both in the UK, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), among others.
I’m currently sharing my experiences and teaching for free, student journalists through an organization I’ve created called iJourno Africa. I’m training them in data journalism and using new media tools to tell important developmental stories.
Why you should listen
I have started something in journalism that nobody is doing in Ghana and on the continent. I’m simply making sure the continent does not churn out obsolete journalists, by training student journalists in data journalism and how to use new media tools to tell developmental stories.
I have gained experiences in this job after 7 years of practice, winning both local and international awards and working with 5 different international media houses to know that this is the future of journalism and we need to rethink the way we do it in Ghana. I will show evidence of the global trends, examples of works some of the trainees have so far done and what I have encouraged my colleagues at work to also do.
