Minister of Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, has condemned the wanton establishment of educational institutions without regard to regulation and procedure.

[contextly_sidebar id=”xVCYNCZSAQKmtrndnVYEQlVf9JgpLxFu”]Speaking to Citi News on some developments in the education sector, Prof Naana Opoku Agyeman said the establishment of all learning institutions must be guided and regulated to ensure proper coordination and efficiency.

Although her ministry has the mandate to assist in achieving this objective, she somewhat suggested that there are no guidelines or policies that properly regulate the establishment of schools in the country.

“The schools keep springing up so the question I think we should all be posing is; what are the guidelines for establishing a school in this country? Do we have them, do we not have them?”

She noted instances where some schools are established without water or toilet facilities asking, “How, for example, does anybody set up a school and there is no water, there is not toilet. I mean, how is that possible?,” she quizzed.

Professor Opoku-Agyeman thus stressed the importance of policies that regulate the establishment of schools.

According to her, “We need to come out with policy interventions that work for everyone so that we don’t have schools that are set up arbitrarily and also that we have proper guidelines on setting schools and even staffing schools whether it is public or private.”
