The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dared government to arrest and prosecute its Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, if they have concrete evidence to prove that he indeed caused financial loss to the state in the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) drill ship saga.
The party insists the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) attempts to tarnish the image of Nana Addo with the scandal should be backed by evidence if they are serious about tagging him as a corrupt person.

The acting General Secretary of the party, John Boadu made this call at a press conference to respond to recent comments from the NDC’s General Secretary Asiedu Nketia at another press conference held on Tuesday.
He wondered why the NDC was concentrating on Nana Addo’s role in the drill ship saga when their own members have been indicted in various corruption scandals.
“To the contrary, the court proven and self-admitted NDC apparatchiks who have looted and allowed a looting and sharing of Ghana’s money like the Smarrty’s, like the Woyome, like all the deals under GYEEDA …are there.”
“All the shady deals under SADA and GYEEDA can …take a lot of people out of poverty.People are going through the worst times of their lives, to the extent that individual shop owners, and all the associations were compelled to come together to withdraw their services and this was because government increased taxes in excess of the taxable limit of our country and everybody is suffocating under this. We must not listen to lies,” John Boadu added.
A leaked Judgement Debt Commission report in 2015, accused Nana Addo of causing financial loss to the state in the sale of the GNPC drill ship.
The ship was sold by the Kufuor administration to defray a 19.5 million dollar judgment debt owed Societe-General Bank in 2001, when Nana Akufo-Addo was the Attorney General.
The report further stated that Nana Addo’s failure to effectively defend the state led to the judgment debt.
But the NPP has repeatedly questioned the work of the commission particularly when they failed to invite Nana Addo to hear his view as the rules of natural justice demands.
