Over 200 people attacked the Bawku District Police station to demand the release of the Imam of the Mossi’s in the town.
The rioters also attempted to break into the armory of the Police but were unsuccessful.

He was granted bail last night but was invited this morning for questioning by the Police in connection with the alleged illegal activities of the children.
Speaking to Citi News the Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku Bukari Issahaku said a Police vehicle was vandalized by the youth in the violence.
“They were able to destroy one of their pickups. And even what baffles my mind is that the police armory, they were trying to break that one. Because of that the Police had to fire warning shots to disperse them,” he said.
He stated that the station did not have enough police men at the time of the attack adding that “because today is Sunday there were not enough Police men.”
“It so happens that the Police realized that the robberies and stealing that occurs some of those boys are involved. So yesterday evening they got three of them. They decided to trace their caretaker, where they are actually staying and going through this ‘makaranta’ education. They went there and brought the leader and two other Malams to the police station. And the agreement was that we were going to identify some Mallams and meet them this morning with the Police and to talk to them about some of these issues that are happening only to mobilize some people to the police station,” he said.
He condemned the violence and called for dialogue among the various stakeholders to ensure sustainable peace in the area.
