Sports Writers Association of Ghana [SWAG], has officially inaugurated it’s Volta Regional Chapter in Ho with a call on members in the Region to enhance their career skills through continuous and further education.

The Association, made up of sports commentators, sport news writers, sports presenters, sports analysts among other professionals, have opened the office in Ho to coordinate its activities at the regional level.

Addressing members at the ceremony in Ho, the President of the Association and host of Sports Highlights on Ghana Television [GTV], Kwabena Yeboah, said it would be rewarding for sports writers in Ghana to commit themselves to growing work-related knowledge and skills through education.

He insisted that members need to educate themselves in order to stay relevant in the industry, and present well-informed messages towards the development of sports in Ghana.

“The ability to educate yourself is very important and to enhance the opportunities that come your way, because if you are not properly educated, how are you going to educate the people through sports” he said.

Some participants at the event lamented how their efforts are not being recognized at the national level, with some calling for awards schemes to be organized at the regional levels to motivate the local sports journalists.

However, Kwabena Yeboah reiterated that, the fastest way to earn attention and enjoy opportunities in the industry is through professional development through schooling. He therefore pledged the Association’s support towards any initiative that would inure to the growth of its members.

The Association appointed a three-member interim management committee that included Eric Eli Adzie, Tilda Acorlor and Davis Clottey to supervise its operations in the Volta Region.
