The Rotary Club of Ring Road has made a Ghc12,000 worth of donation comprising assorted items, which included gallons of cooking oil, bags of rice, toys and beverages to the children and guardians of the Kressner Orphanage at Kodjo-Ashong in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The donation was part of the Club’s activities to fete the children at the orphanage this month.
The Service Project Director, James Owuse, said the Club deemed it important to give back to the community especially towards the development of young children hence the gesture.
The President of the Ring Road Central Rotary Club, Tony Asare, said that, society must be responsible for the vulnerable, especially children in orphanages so that they can be given equal opportunity to have the best life can offer.
He said he was of the firm belief that the items and cash donated to the Orphanage will go a long way to support the Children and contribute to making them responsible citizens.
Sister Kizita, the guardian who received the items on behalf of the orphanage, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club and promised to put the items to good use.
She said the Orphanage would be diligent in making use of the items to help keep the bond it shares with the Rotary Club Accra, Ring Road Central.
The Kressner Orphanage was funded by the Rotary Club of Otterndorf-Land in Germany, and in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra with about $700,000.
It was inaugurated to serve the needs of the people of Kodjo -Ashong and its environs in the Amasaman District.
The facility consists of 60 beds, quarters with caregivers’ rooms, a four-unit classroom block, social centre, a pantry, recreational rooms and a convent for the reverend sisters.
The orphanage caters for orphans, children of HIV/AIDS patients, the less privileged and vulnerable in society.
