Ikenna, actually, you got it wrong. The entire Ghana is still a village and we need to that fits the village. Technology should be appropriate and should meet the needs and capacities of the people. Otherwise, its useless. We lack the fundamentals of development and you want to go to the moon. What I am seeing is like trying to fit a fast Mercedes engine into a tractor and expecting same results. Look at our roads; even in the middle of Accra. Its all a window dressing. If you go to some parts of Spintex, you will wonder if this is Ghana. Go in the air look down. Its all red soil. Government should fix the inner city roads, name and number the streets, then a digital address system begin to make sense. But even that, for the reasons I listed above, that whole thing will benefit a few if at all. I will leave the discussion on the security risks, veracity of the addresses, data protection etc to another session.

Good you know every application needs training, how many institutions do we have training people on such issues, aside Accra do you know professional institutions? Can you name pls..

Even Google map your are talking about is not open open source. Open street map will just provide you with the base map. If you want something like satellite imagery or Route navigation, then you have to consult other third parties. So what’s your point.

Just because tech companies and other organisation uses it does not mandate the government using. Am yet to see serious Government projects that is fully implemented using open source.

Why is the android OS opensourced?? because it was built on opensourced linux kernel, opensource allows innovation and security improvement, have you ever wondered abt this saying ” Two heads are better than 1″ …. OSS , no one is against it, but you people make it seem that opensource is worse is is very untrue, commercial is closed source , so how would we know the flaws and the bad codes in them???
