Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Juliana Obeng, said “A Sprinter bus was coming from Cape Coast to Kumasi with 23 passengers on board. Now at about 10 in the night, we heard that this bus had been attacked by some suspected armed robbers. These men had guns and opened fire on passengers, forcing the driver to stop. What happened was that after investigation, we noticed that on board the vehicle was a Policeman who was returning from official duties back to his station. As we speak, the Policeman is at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital responding to treatment as a result of gunshot wounds he sustained. It was only the Policeman who was injured in the process, the others were not attacked.
Madam Obeng said the Police have commenced investigations into the incident to arrest the culprits.
“I guess until investigation starts into the incident it will be too early to say he was the target. That notwithstanding we are not ruling anything out. Investigations are underway for us to tell whether he was the target or not. He is responding to treatment and we will ensure that we bring the armed robbers to book,” she said.
Michel Camp incident
This incident follows a similar one that occurred a few days ago involving a Police Officer, Michael Kporye, who was killed while on patrol duties at Tulaku near Michel camp in the Tema area.
Michael was on night patrol duties using his motorbike, when two unknown armed assailants who were also on a motorbike, shot him to death.
Another Police officer, Lance Corporal Robert Kumi Ackah of the Tamale Rapid Deployment Force was shot and killed after he was mistaken for an armed robber a few weeks ago.
