An Assin Foso District Court, presided over by His Lordship Samuel Ntim Jnr, has remanded in police custody the Chief of Assin Dansame, and thirteen other accomplices for exhuming a corpse that was publicly displayed.
On Monday, June 26, the Chief, Nana Twum Barimah V, was alleged to have ordered some youth in the town to exhume the corpse of the deceased, Koo Emma, few hours after burial.
The Chief was reported to have given the order on the grounds that the deceased did not take part in communal labour when he was alive.
He and some thirteen youth from the community, suspected to have executed his order, were subsequently arrested, and they appeared in court today [Thursday].
They have been charged with conspiracy to exhume a corpse, exhuming a corpse and causing fear and insecurity by their action.
All the fourteen suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Joe Louis of the Assin Foso police, asked the court to remand the suspects in police custody to help the police fine-tune their investigations.
The Judge agreed with the prosecutor and remanded all the fourteen suspects in police custody to reappear on July 10, 2017.
