The Centre for Democratic Development, CDD Ghana has organized a public forum in the Mpohor district of the Western Region.
The forum dubbed “interface engagement for MPs and constituents” is aimed at bridging the communication gap between developmental stakeholders in the district.
It is also geared towards facilitating conversations around development challenges.
Present at the meeting were the Member of Parliament for the Mpohor Constituency, Hon Alex Adjekum, the District Chief Executive for the district, David Asaa, the Mpohor District Presiding Member, Chief of Adum Banso Nana Kwame Obrempong, representatives from the opposition NDC, other political parties as well as some community members.
The platform, according to the Monitoring and Evaluation officer at CDD, Samuel Adusei Baaye was to ensure that citizens in the Mpohor district get the opportunity to interact with their Member of Parliament and to ensure that they add their voices to developmental issues especially the preparation of the District’s Medium Term Development Plan.
The forum focused on health, education, roads and employment.
Generally, participants wanted explanations on why kindergarten blocks in the district were in a deplorable state.
District education and health directors present were offered the opportunity to respond to issues and suggestions that had to do with their respective fields.
The Member of Parliament for the constituency Alex Adjekum also underscored the importance of the engagement. He took the opportunity to explain some government initiatives that will improve the lives of the people in the district.
Hon. Adjekum however warned the youth in the district that are into illegal small scale mining to respect government’s ban on illegal mining.
He warned “do not expect any of us to follow you to the Police Station when you are arrested for doing “Galamsey. It is polluting our water bodies and destroying our environment.”
He encouraged the youth to rather embrace government’s Planting for Food and Jobs program.
The DCE, Mr. Asaa Mensah also provided some answers to some of the questions but particularly encouraged the youth to stop illegal mining and register for the Planting For Food and Jobs Program.
