The constant refusal by government to pay debts owed the poultry industry is fast sending the industry to its knees.
This is the ‘cry’ of some poultry farmers in the country.
The latest brawl to hit the industry is government’s refusal to pay poultry farmers after destroying their birds three years ago due to bird flu attack.
Although the farmers admit it was the previous government that owed them, they believe the new government can address the issue.
Earlier, the association lamented over the refusal of government to refund a GHc6 million loan that was used in financing the pilot phase of the Ghana Broiler Revitalization Program (GHABROP) launched in 2014.
Abraham Tetteh is a member of the poultry farmers association and tells Citi Business News government must address the situation immediately.
“I heard them say on a media platform that they have paid the first batch and will pay the second batch sometime ago, but as at now we have not received anything. Now I am not working. I am a widower and I have got children in school so you can imagine my headache. The worst part of my story is that I was asked to remove the whole roofing of the coup. It is still as it is with no ceiling as we speak.” He said.
He added that “583 birds of mine were destroyed and that cost me 120,000 cedis. So we are pleading with government to pay us.”
