Host of The Big Issue on Citi FM Umaru Sanda Amadu, was on Friday adjudged the Radio Personality of the year at the second edition of Ghana Muslim Achievers Awards.
The proficient broadcaster was nominated for this sternly contested award category alongside GBCs Mariam Sissey, Rafiq salam of Multimedia Group, other nominees include Yussif Abdul Ganiu Sholla of Zuria fm, Mohammed Ibrahim Duguyallah of Za Radio, and Suraya Alidu Maltiti of Capital Radio.
The works of the celebrated Journalist who is also the host of Citi Prime News on Citi FM and Politicos on Citi TV has been recognized with several laurels.
He was adjudged winner of the 2014 Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services (WASH) Media Awards organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute, SIWI of Sweden, and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC).
An emotional Sanda, was appreciative of the efforts of his mother in seeing to it that he was educated, saying“I thank everyone for supporting me, thank you Citi FM, I am very grateful to my mother and all Muslim women who strive to educate their children”
“But for the efforts of my mother, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to stand before the Vice President of the country to receive an award and deliver a speech, I thank my mother” he added.
The guest of honour, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who received an award on behalf of his wife Samira, said government is committed to uplifting the standard of living in Muslim Communities in the country.
He added that, President Akufo Addo is committed to deliver on the promises he made to Muslims and the Zongo communities.
The Vice President graced the occasion with the National Chief Imam, Shiehk Osuman Nuhu Sarabutu, the Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, and other Islamic clerics.
The Ghana Muslim Achievers Awards, which is the brainchild of Sukra Event Management with support from the office of the Chief Imam, is an annual event organized to honour Muslims all over the country in the areas of media, education, health, entrepreneurship, leadership among others.
Twenty one people were awarded at this year’s edition of the Ghana Muslim Acheivers Award, key among them were the Second Lady Samira Bawumia as Female Personality of the Year, Managing director of Stanbic Bank Alhassan Andani for Corporate Lifetime Achievement Award and the Information Minister Mustapha Hamid as political Personality of the year, an award which was previously won the Dr Bawumia.
