To Kwame Nkrumah was given the mandate by Great Britain to form and build an economy that would run and build to robust growth for Ghana. Kwame Nkrumah formed the first ever government to run and control Ghana from an established finance capital that had built from the colonial business transactions in the Gold Coast colony. The colonizing Britons pillaged the hard mineral resources: diamonds, gold, bauxite, manganese etc. and the tropical lumber of the Gold Coast. From the business transactions the colonizing did with the native Gold Coast, Great Britain was generous enough to build that finance capital for the Gold Coast colony, however meagre. It was this finance capital in the coffers of the Gold Coast that was given to Kwame Nkrumah to run the new independent Ghana as a beginning nation.
Unfortunately, however, Dr Kwame Nkrumah had not been adequately well prepared to run a contemporary nation. Kwame Nkrumah had never learnt sufficiently well how to run and build a nation’s economy to robust, vibrant, healthy growth. He made a mess of it. Kwame Nkrumah botched the economy with absolutely wrong social, political and economic policies. The Gold Coast turned Ghana was not a community that would stomach socialist/communist thinking and administration. Kwame Nkrumah was absolutely wrong. To the Ghanaian genes is and was foreign the socialist shibboleth Kwame Nkrumah sought to introduce. Political corruption had its genesis in Kwame Nkrumah’s socialism which has become a bane we see John Dramani Mahama and his NDC cohorts have tried replicating. How and when did the 10% fee charge to business doing enter the Ghana economy, you know? There are other equally bad causes that have generated corruption in our Ghana community we need to battle with. But let me tell you that the major significance of Kwame Nkrumah to the Ghana nation is the mess he made of the Ghana economy given the finance capital the British colonial administration made available to his CPP political party. Socialism/communism is foreign to the Ghana genes, Nobody denies Kwame Nkrumah’s importance in the build of the Ghana nation state. But he bungled the Ghana nation economy creation from the start.

No one since Nkrumah have the continent or indeed Ghana known progress. Look around – all you see is the legacy of Nkrumah. To think he only reigned for 6 years. Others rules for 20years but have nothing to their name except killing educated people and ruining most of the industries set up by our great leader that would have made Ghana industrial. Now, we import all the things that Gihoc was establish to produce. Poor us, we lost Nkrumah and lost 60 years of progress!
