Ghana Technology University last Wednesday held its 1st Global Business Directions conference under the theme: “the enterprising graduate.”
The conference was aimed at giving students an opportunity to meet and engage industry players as well as stakeholders in a bid to equip the students become employable and enterprising.
The speakers for the conference were former rector of GIMPA, Professor Stephen Adei, Lecturer and CEO certified Ghana limited Timothy Adei, Broadcast Journalist, Abeiku Santana Aggrey, among others.
Speaking to Citi News at the conference, the organiser for the conference, Esi Akyere Mensah said the unemployment rate within the country is increasing at an alarming rate and students have to be equipped to be entrepreneurs “Ghana has a huge unemployment rate among the youth and it is a major problem.”
“There is also a huge gap between industry and academia which makes students not employable after graduating. Therefore this programme gives the students the opportunity to connect with the key stakeholders in the industry.”
One of the facilitators at the conference, lecturer and CEO for Certified Ghana Limited Timothy Adei explained that information communication technology can be of great help in the life of an entrepreneur “in today’s world ICT has become part of everyone over the world and every business man or woman needs skill in ICT so they can fully use all social media platforms.”
