The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bechem in the Tano South Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region, is accusing the Police in the area of unfair treatment.
They have therefore given the police there a 2-day ultimatum to arrest and prosecute all those responsible for violent acts against their members in the area.
They have also called on authorities of the police administration and the NPP, to urgently investigate the District Command to prevent the situation from escalating.
[contextly_sidebar id=”NZihJkIlCX2yNzBAc0Lh51GBECyMxXTF”]According to them, the lack of interest to prosecute persons who have committed acts of violence against the supporters in the area by the District Commander, Supt. Abraham Bansah, is heightening tension in the area, and called for the swift prosecution of all reported cases of attacks on perceived NPP members.
“The NPP sees it as a travesty of justice for Supt. Abraham Bansah to swiftly jump into action when cases are reported against perceived members of the NPP; but treats cases reported against perceived NDC members with disdain”, he emphasized.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Bechem, the Constituency Secretary, Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong, highlighted numerous cases of perceived police injustice inflicted on supporters of the NPP.
He revealed that the area has experienced upheavals for a year now, yet the police who are supposed to maintain law and order have woefully failed in the performance of their duties.
He catalogued that medical personnel brought in the constituency by the NPP to help with a health outreach were kidnapped, beaten, stripped naked and their phones and other valuables stolen.
Kwarteng said the Police failed to investigate an attack on the Derma http://www.ourhealthissues.com/product/nolvadex/ Methodist JHS that caused injury to the constituency deputy secretary, Sulemana Rashid.
Mr. Sarpong recounted that a night after the 2016 elections, two of their campaign vehicles returning to Bechem from Derma were brutally attacked in front of Hanna Bissiw’s residence by her thugs, leading to injuries and destruction of the vehicles.
He said even though the case was reported, no arrest has been made because the police in Bechem are simply not interested.
On the Constituency First Vice Chairman, Kofi Asare’s case, he said it was a convention for the losing party’s representatives to stop operating toilet facilities after results are announced, and so the first Vice Chairman caused an announcement on a local information centre for people operating the various toilet facilities in the area to hand over since their tenure of office had expired with the defeat of the NDC.
He noted there were no confrontations or scuffles during the takeover, until the police intervention where there were hot exchanges between the commander and the Vice Chairman, over the latter’s lackadaisical attitude towards dealing with NPP matters in the constituency.
The Constituency Secretary blamed Akua Donkor for constantly hurling insults on the person of Kofi Asare, which resulted in the fight with Vida Achiaa, wife of the Vice Chairman due to their political differences.
Mr. Sarpong said police in the area have openly showed their bias towards the NPP by arresting the Vice Chairman at dawn, and accused Supt. Bansah of pocketing the cell keys and switching off his phones.
“We therefore have no option than to defend ourselves moving forward”, he cautioned.
