The Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has been accused of physical assault by his NPP contender, Nii Lante Bannerman.

Bannerman alleges that Vanderpuye accosted and attacked him at his residence in James Town on Wednesday morning.

This accusation comes on the back of reports of clashes that occurred between supporters of the two on Tuesday evening.

The clashes are said to have happened at the end of two separate campaign rallies held by the two men.

According to Bannerman, Nii Lante Vanderpuye attacked him in the presence of the residents in James Town.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show said “the MP attacked me this morning, physically… in the full glare of everybody this morning at James town. He came out of his car, I was sitting in my car, then he just punched me. I was in the car, I was defenseless. He crossed us with is car and got down, he punched me twice. There were more than 20 of his personal security guys.”

Meanwhile the MP and Minister of Youth and Sports who did not confirm or deny attacking the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary candidate when queried on the Citi Breakfast Show said Bannerman should have reported the attack to the Police.

“I thought that if I had punched him and he was that intelligent, the first place he would run to is the police station which is just about 100 meters away from where he said I punched him. Why has he run to a radio station.”

Bannerman explained how the Tuesday evening attacks occurred saying “Some few meters away from the Usher Fort prisons, we realised that stones and bottles where being thrown at us. So we wanted to retreat but because we were many, some of the guys rushed onto the guys who were throwing the stones and the bottles. So they went off and we continued with our procession.”
