President John Mahama is optimistic the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will capture at least 13 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region in addition to the one million votes the party is vying for.
He expressed confidence in the party’s performance in the region as he set his target ahead of the 2016 elections.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ZnK1z9zYe9jyhFXVtVj4ytpI0Jhw3wN3″]Addressing NDC supporters at Asawase after a health walk in the town as part of his four-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, President Mahama said, “the NDC has only four seats in this region but per my calculations, I am hopeful that we would be able to wrestle nine more to make it 13.”
The President also reminded that the NDC had adequately provided for the people of the Ashanti Region.
“You would attest that we have done a lot of developmental projects across the country. Talk of roads, water hospitals and schools. Every region is enjoying the Good works especially Kumasi.”
“This is the second largest city in Ghana and a commercial one too. So we are constructing one of the biggest markets for you to attract a lot of traders to this region,” President Mahama added.
I’m like Usain Bolt – Mahama
As he tours the strong hold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), President Mahama has been expressing confidence in his prospects in the polls, as he has likened his expected victory to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt’s exceptional track and field exploits.
Addressing the Chiefs during the durbar at Adansi Apagya in the New Edubiase Constituency over the weekend, he said all his contenders were lagging behind him in the presidential race.
“There’s an athlete called Usain Bolt. He is the fastest runner alive. Whenever he takes the lead in a 100 meter race, he turns to look at those lagging behind him and whistles. That is to tell the NPP that the race has already been won. We are already in the lead so it is too late from them to catch up.”
