The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has made available relief items including mattresses, blankets, buckets and food items to victims who were affected by the recent floods in the New Juaben Municipality.
The items would be distributed to over 2,000 people including children, whose houses were submerged in the flood, after a three-hour downpour which displaced many in the area.
Areas such as Nsukwao, Old Estate, Kenkey factory, Aberewa-Nkwanta and other communities dotted along the Nsukwao River and storm drains in the municipality were most affected with two people losing their lives after the rains occurred last week.
Mr Ransford Owusu-Boakye, Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO, who presented the items to the Municipal Assembly, said the relief items were to help the victims adjust with the situation whiles permanent solutions to their plight was being made.
Mr Owusu-Boakye said preliminary investigation indicates that apart from a few buildings which had been constructed on waterways, choked drains and gutters were the major contributing factor to the floods.
He appealed to the affected victims, currently living with their relatives, to wait till the flood waters to subside before going back home.
