A group of suspended polling station officers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akropong constituency have vowed to vote against the party’s parliamentary candidate, Nana Yaa Dokua.
They say they will votes for an independent candidate in the upcoming elections.
Mr. Ammishaddai Ansah, their spokesperson, told a news conference at Akuapem-Akropomg that the 14 officers and their supporters numbering about 50, would, however, be voting for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.
He accused Nana Dokua of masterminding their suspension.
He said the group found it disgusting, was the candidate’s neglect of the party’s structures in the run-up to the December polls.
Ms. Nana Dokua robustly discounted the accusation and insists saying, she “had no hand in their suspension”.
She told reporters that the decision to sanction those polling station executive members was taken by the party, consistent with its constitution.
She said it was also not true that she had sidelined the party and doing things her own way.
The Akropong NPP suspended the affected officers on October 1, at its meeting held in Mamfe, for campaigning for an independent candidate, contesting the area’s seat.
